Hi everyone, my wife and I are having a hard time deciding between the 2 cars. My wife prefers the Beemer while I like the GS300. I was hoping to make use of this portal to determine the People's Choice.

The prices for these 2 cars are about the same. I know a lot of pple raved about a Beemer's drive but in terms of standard equipment & comfort, the 523i is not quite up there with the GS300. If you were in our shoes, which would you choose? Do give us yr thoughts. Thank you in advance for your kind contribution.

heres something to consider, the bmw’s steering is electronic as in the turning is controlled electronicly through a computer so there is no feel to it… i havnt drove the lexus but i think driving wise it would be better…

ultimately it voices down to ur choice and ur wife's choice..

personally, u may wanna look further.. talking about aftermarket components. which brand offers u more choices after u got ur car.

GS300 for me......... better reliabilaty if u ask me. to me BMW always alot of problems and somemore........ too many electronic components to my liking. and of cuz spare parts and servicing shld be cheaper for the lexus. it is afterall a toyota.... now will dat bother u? got to ask urself liao

Everyone I know who owns a BMW doesn't have anything good to say about it. Its frequent repairs, expensive repair bills and how the service standard drops like a rock once your warranty is up.

Lexus has been known for its reliability and workmanship.

To prove my point, have your ever seen a broken down Lexus? Very Happy

I used to be a Bimmer fan. I drove 3 BMWs before (E36 320, E46 320 and last E39 520). I am in the same situation as you when I changed to Volvo S60 T5 3 months ago, main reason is when I test the E60 523 I think it cant even match my E39 520 in term of feel and handling.

My T5 thought not so good in handling compare to the BMW but in view that I dont really push the car to the limit to feel the difference and at the same time it is cheaper and more powerful than the 523, I got the T5.

I will choose GS300 if I got to choose between the 2, for reliability, quietness and power. Mr. Green

I have a few friends from BMW club also change camp, E60 and E90 not very attractive; unless your pocket deep enough for 525 or 325 and above.

I dun wan my car to be spending more time in the workshop than me actually driving it

alternatively.. get the IS250... space will prolly be smaller.. but it would prolly be a good car to drive that is actually pretty reliable too?

beemer is for the name. But in terms of design, orginally when the new 5 series came out... it looked really good to me with those fierce eyebrow like headlamps. but then again it has been for a few years already... the design to me is getting boring and it is EVERYWHERE.

lexus on the otherhand, looks really really sleek and expecially with the pearlescent white paint.. or silver... For comfort i sat in a 520i before... its really comfortable but i dont know about driving it. GS300 with lexus's famed low NVH score would really be a winner i guess.

on the technical side... i think spare parts would be alot cheaper for the lexus than the BMW.

Thanks for the contribution, SEI. You know how people are raving over a Beemer's drive... but that's not I want in a car. I wanna feel pampered inside a car when I drive/caught in a jam. Think that's more important than anything else.

Thing about Beemers is that visually, it gets dated quite fast too.

Well, it's between the BMW and the Lexus now. I think the maintenance/upkeeping cost of a car is quite important as well. I think Lexus would have the edge here.

By saying BMW always has a lot of problems, is it from personal experience or you have friends facing problems with their Beemers? I don't have any friends driving a BMW. Most of them are Merc/Lexus fans.

I'm not bothered by the fact that a Lexus is afterall an upmarket Toyota. I think the only relation is the parent company. Lexus's build quality/comfort is legendary and on a totally different level from Toyota. Even when you talk about Toyota, it is also very well-built. Relatively problem-free. Even those from Thailand. I sat in my friend's Altis once. Very quiet. I must say I was pretty impressed.

I was also contemplating getting the GS300 as an additional car for myself.
The latest price is $159k. I was beginning to wonder about the $14k differences for the parking system differences. The OMV diff is around $4k only. Of course, for some, they may say $14k is nothing to me as it is not coming out of their pockets. For me, I can parallel park well and I don't need no silly system to help me. Have you gone down for a test drive? The 523 is definitely out of my list.

I did hear about BMW's maintenance cost. Their servicing after warranty can sometimes hit the thousand dollar mark... Scary...
